Rain changes the beach plan, but it does not have to flatten the whole day.
From Indian Shores, you can point the car in a few useful directions depending on the kind of weather you are dealing with. A steady storm calls for an aquarium, museum, movie, or shopping stop. A passing shower might leave enough room for lunch near the water, a covered browse, or a garden visit once the sky opens up.
Sometimes it starts with a pelican gliding low over the Gulf. Sometimes it is a dolphin rolling just beyond the swim zone. Sometimes it is an osprey carrying a fish over the Intracoastal, or a little line of shorebirds working the wet sand after the tide changes.
The Gulf side gives you the bright, sandy part of the day. The Intracoastal side gives you a quieter place to slow down later on. Put them together and you get the kind of beach trip that feels easy without being empty.
